Today, we worked in groups to discuss the different ways we could make words into plurals. We sorted a selection of words, paying attention to the spelling patterns.
This wasn't as easy as we had first thought. We discovered that depending on how the words ended (in their singular form) this dictated how the plural form was spelt. For example, singular words ending in Y could have the Y removed and ies added, BUT only if the letter before the Y is a consonant i.e. baby / babies. When a singular word ends in Y but has a vowel before it, i.e. boy, then an S is added after the Y.
Although alot of us know how to spell these words we didn't know the rules.

Cross Country Magic
Last week, Hutt Central held its Cross Country Competition. We had been training all term for this event and the practice really showed. I was so impressed to see how well Room 9 competed. There was a marked improvement in fitness levels.
Here's a few action shots from competition day. Check out the concentration on their faces.

Keeping Ourselves Safe
Constable Julie has been visiting our classroom. She has been teaching us about how we can keep ourselves safe.
We have learnt about being confident and strong by standing up for ourselves, as well as good and bad consequences to our actions. Today, we have been learning about how to identify dangerous situations by asking ourselves four questions.
We must ask ourselves these questions to know if what we are wanting to do is safe. For example, if a school friend has asked you to play after school?
Talk with your family about these questions and the examples we discussed in class today.

- Do I feel ok about it?
- Would my family want me to do it?
- Would I be able to get help if needed?
- Would someone who cares about me know where I am?
